Getting bitten on your ankles and legs?

Other than wasps in the height of summer, fleas are the most common insect that iQ Pest Control deal with in the home.

Fleas are usually quite easy to spot jumping from host to host often between your beloved pets. Or perhaps you may be unlucky enough to tell iQ Pest Control “I have seen fleas in my carpet” which are then jumping onto you and your family to feed.

Do you have cats and dogs? Has the previous occupier had pets before you moved in? Whatever the circumstance you are at risk of fleas and their bites and maybe an infestation throughout your property! Act now and call iQ Pest Control on 01280 811198 so we can treat your home or business for flea infestations and get rid of fleas.

Get Rid Of Fleas – Flea Exterminator

Maybe you have never had pets and you have lived at your home for a long time and not had issues with fleas, this does not mean that you will never have a flea problem. Wild animals such as foxes, hedgehogs, rabbits and badgers all can carry fleas, unbeknown to you any or maybe all of these animals may venture into your garden or grounds at night. If a few eggs or larvae happen to have been flicked or jumped off the wild host near to your property you may unwittingly pick them up on your shoe or clothes and bring them into your home or business often depositing them on your carpets, fleas in carpets are what we are most commonly called out to.

The faeces of the adult flea which contains digested blood, feeds the population of flea larvae. Flea faeces appears very much like ground black pepper. A good quality powerful vacuum cleaner and methodical thorough use will help in managing a flea problem in carpets, that is assuming the vacuum bag or vacuum cleaner is emptied as soon as you have finished. In reality to get rid of fleas you need professional help. Call iQ Pest Control on 01280 811198 to arrange for a professional flea treatment.

What are fleas?

There are two species of fleas that we find in homes and businesses in our region, the cat flea ctenocephalides felis and the dog flea ctenocephalides canis. Both species are similar in appearance being around 3mm in length, the cat flea is brownish-red in colour whereas the dog flea is darker a more reddish black, both species have elongated legs which allows them to jump huge distances.

Fleas have to be able to find their host they do this by sensing movement, vibration and heat, remarkably they can also detect carbon dioxide that we and our pets expel during breathing which helps them locate their next meal.

What can I do, I am getting bitten by fleas?

iQ Pest Control deal with mouse and rat infestations and it is not uncommon to also find fleas in these premises as mice and rats will also both carry fleas.

If you are a pet owner it is essential that a professional veterinarian prescribed flea control product is used on your pet prior to any flea control treatment in your house as well as washing your pet bed or beds on a hot wash or even bagging up and disposing of them.

If your cat or dog is scratching and itching repeatedly throughout the day it is likely fleas are the culprit and you have a flea problem on your pet and in your home.

Fleas as do a lot of other insects have four life stages; egg, larva, pupa, and then adult. To guarantee total flea control in all of the life stages it is vital for iQ Pest Control to use insect growth regulators (IGR’s) for eliminating and managing flea problems. Before we start any flea treatment it is essential that a full site inspection is undertaken so we can ensure we can find the source of the infestation and offer tailored advice and treatment. iQ Pest Control have heard many times our customers say “my pets do not go upstairs”, this may or may not be true. When you are out pets push the boundaries, even iQ Pest Control’s dog Sika has got into his masters bedroom and laid on the bed and on the carpet, but as soon as he hears the van pull on the drive he is back downstairs as if he has been there all day, I wonder how many other pets do this?

iQ Pest Control when carrying out a flea treatment will primarily be treating floors and flooring areas, fleas in carpets and rugs in living rooms, dining rooms, hallways and bedrooms are common. Even on hard tiled or floor boards fleas can still thrive if not treated correctly.

It is not unusual for iQ Pest Control to treat a garden if it is apparent that fleas are present. More and more people are trading in their lawn for an artificial carpet like turf, if iQ Pest Control or you find fleas in the garden we can also treat that area too.
